Health

  • All family members should get medical and dental check-ups to completely update all medical records before your move.

  • Find out if your health insurance is covered in your new country or if you will need a new provider.

  • Bring an adequate supply of medications with you. It often takes time to locate a doctor for a new prescription. Also, find out if these medications are sold by the same name.

  • You may need immunizations, inoculations, or booster shots before moving overseas and your children will probably need them to enroll in school. Find out what inoculations are necessary by consulting your doctor, the consular representative of your destination country, the U.S. Public Health Service Quarantine Division or The Federal Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The U.S. Public Health Service can advise you about optional immunizations.

  • Upon arrival in your new country, locate the nearest hospital and find English speaking doctors, especially if English is spoken as a second language. This is extremely important if anyone in your family has a medical problem.

  • Do not pack medical records and prescriptions. Carry them with you.
