Driver's License

Your US Driver's License may or may not be honored in your destination country. Investigate the requirements well ahead of time.

Some countries require an international driving permit. An international driving certificate of license, available in nine languages, can be obtained at your local DMV. You may also apply for an international permit by contacting:

Some countries will require you to obtain a local license. You will be given a grace period, which varies from one country to another, in which your old license or your international permit will be honored. Usually a complete driving test, written test and eye examination is required for a local license.

Do not pack your driver's license or driving certificate. Keep them with you at all times.
