2 Weeks Before Moving

Contact your moving company to confirm all final arrangements for your move.

Prepare specific directions to your new home plus your new phone number for your moving company. Include your travel itinerary and emergency numbers.

Terminate newspaper and other delivery services.

Dispose of hazardous, non shippable items. Refer to the "Items Not to Pack" section of the "Packing Tips" guide for more information.

If you're moving out of a building with elevators, arrange with the management for their use on move day.

Have your automobile serviced if you are traveling by car.

Fill any necessary medical prescriptions, then transfer them to a drugstore in your new city.

Withdraw contents of your safety deposit box.

Schedule for appliance disconnection 1 or 2 days before your move.

Disconnect and disassemble your computer system. Back up all your computer files on a disk. Consider taking all back up files and disks with you to your new home. Exposure to extreme temperatures can damage your software.

Tape and seal all cleaning fluids that are non-toxic and non-flammable in plastic bags.

Empty school and gym lockers.

Make final packing decisions. Clean and clear cupboards, closets, basement and attic.

Return library books, rental video tapes and DVD's.

Pick up any last minute dry cleaning and laundry, etc.
