You should only choose an auto shipper which is licensed and bonded. Always ask for and check their DOT license number. The Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) used to regulate trucking companies, but was disbanded in 1995. DOT took over its safety functions, while the new National Surface Transportation Board took on many of its other functions.
